Good Food Combinations For Healthy Digestion

Have you ever experience eating two different types of foods after or with one another and suddenly, you feel there is an apparent riot inside your stomach? If you did, then you probably learned a good lesson of not eating these foods together again.

There arise digestion problems when you eat foods that are not supposed to be combined together. While foods are necessary to keep us alive and energetic; sometimes there are food combinations that bring about problems instead of benefits. For this, you need to learn about the concept of good food combinations.

Protein must not be combined with starches. In eating hamburger, for instance; meat is protein while the bread is starch. Acid digestive juices will be required to digest the protein and alkaline juices for the starch. Protein and starch eaten together will not neutralize and therefore no digestion will result. Not being able to digest properly, they will rot inside the stomach. This will produce acid reflux and gas. Proteins are known to be best taken with green and leafy vegetables.

Fruits and starches are also not good. The only food element whose digestion begins in the mouth is starch, via Ptyalin enzyme. Fruit sugars, on the other hand, are instantly absorbed by the intestine. Eating fruits and starches together will simply make the food rot in no time at all. If you will eat fruits, eat them alone or with other kinds of fruits. To lessen the sweetness of fruits, you may eat a small amount of nuts. Melons are fruits and they also digest a lot quicker than other foods. As an exception, eat melons only by themselves, not even with other kinds of fruits.

For a single meal, never combine acid fruits with sweet types of fruits. Grapefruit, strawberries and pineapple are acid fruits that may be combined with sub-acid fruits like peaches, apples and grapes. Neither acid nor sub-acid fruits should be mixed with sweet variety of fruits such as raisins, dates or bananas.

Oils and fats can very well combine with other foods, with the exception of fruits. Take only small amount of oils and fats because they will simply decrease the rate of digestion, rather than increasing it.

If you wish to eat foods that do not combine well with each other, there are certain amounts of time that you should wait before eating them. Wait two hours before eating foods that do not combine with fruits. Wait three hours before eating foods that do not go well with starches and wait four hours before eating foods not in combination with proteins.

Of course, there will surely be instances when improper food combinations cannot be avoided. To quickly fix this, you may try the following:

??? If protein and starch are together in one meal, you should include legumes in your meal.??? Eat acid fruits along with nuts.??? An acid fruit should also be taken along with dairy products.??? If you have consumed too much pasta, you have to eat apple the following morning.??? In case you have taken a lot of protein, papaya should be taken the next morning.??? If you have taken a lot of sugar, grapes should then be taken the following morning.??? If you have consumed an overly salty food, watermelon should then be taken the following morning.
